INTA in the XIII National Congress of Composite Materials MATCOMP’19.

National Congress of Composite Materials MATCOMP'19

From July 3 to 5, 2019, the National Congress of Composite Materials MATCOMP'19 was held in the city of Vigo. Industrial Engineer Ph.D. Malte Frövel (Head of Area of Composite Materials) and Industrial Engineer Manuel González-Gallego (El Pardo Campus) attended the Congress in representation of INTA.

MATCOMP is the most important event of the scientific, academic and business community in the field of composite materials held in Spain. Promoted by the Spanish Association of Composite Materials (AEMAC), it has been jointly organized by the Automotive Technology Centre of Galicia (CTAG) and the University of Vigo.

In this edition, there were more than 350 participants from universities, research centers, public research organizations and private companies. Distributed in 7 thematic blocks with plenary tables, presentations and posters, the impact of composite materials in Industry 4.0 and the Circular Economy of sectors such as aeronautical and naval industries was discussed.

Dr. Frövel presented his work on "structural monitoring of RPAS Milano in the flight test phase", in collaboration with different researchers from INTA and “Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Aeronáuticos” (ETSIA) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), in the thematic block Performance in Service.

Engineer González-Gallego presented his research on "characterization of FBGS sensors in ship hull models, by means of biaxial tests with cruciform specimens". This research is being carried out in collaboration with the Department of Technology and Testing of INTA-SGSN, the Department of Materials and Structures of INTA-SGSA and COMES Research Group of the “Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial” (ETSII) of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Ciudad Real.

The congress let the participants to share their experiences and knowledge of composite materials sector and also visit RODMAN POLYSHIPS Shipyard, one of the naval companies leading the construction of composite vessels in Spain and Europe.
